John G. West, MD, Chairman
Dr. West has more than 30 years experience in medicine and surgery. He was the co-founder of the Breast Care Center of Orange County, Inc. in 1987 and introduced an on-site team approach for diagnosing and treating breast cancer and providing comprehensive support to patients. Dr. West continues as the Surgical Director of the Breast Care Center and has an extensive practice in breast oncology surgery. Over the past 20 years, he has helped found and served on the boards of a number of organizations involved in advancing breast cancer education and treatment. He is a founding board member and Chairman of the Board of the BeAware Foundation.
Earlier in his career, Dr. West served as the President and Chairman of the Board of the Orange County Trauma Society and was instrumental in transforming trauma care and outcomes in our County. He created the first trauma center in Orange County that took a comprehensive team approach for assessing and treating traumas.
Dr. West earned an MD degree from the University of California at San Francisco in 1967 and his BA degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963. Dr. West is a Diplomate, American Board of Surgery and a Fellow, American College of Surgeons. He is affiliated with St. Joseph Hospital and Children's Hospital of Orange County both in Orange, California and with Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, California.
Marilyn A. Alexander, President
Ms. Alexander is a consultant focusing on strategy, diagnostics, and process redesign for senior executives of corporations and not-for-profit organizations. She has more than 23 years of finance, marketing, and strategic planning experience. Previously, Ms. Alexander was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Disneyland Resort in California. She also held several positions as Vice President for the marketing and finance functions of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Earlier, she was Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis, of Marriott Corporation and a managing consultant for Cresap, a division of Towers Perrin.
Ms. Alexander serves on the board of trustees of Equity Office Properties and of New Century Financial Corporation. At Chapman University she serves as a member of the Board of Governors and the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees. She is a licensed CPA in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ms. Alexander is a founding board member and President of the Be Aware.
Ms. Alexander earned an MBA at the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She earned her BA at Georgetown University in Washington, DC., where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude.
Jeff Dailey, Marketing and Technology Chair
Jeff Dailey is currently the COO of Dailey Marketing Group, a full service advertising agency and the COO of DMG Promotions, a promotional merchandise services company. Jeff has been at the forefront of eMarketing for nearly 15 years, including the planning, development and implementation of over 300 websites in the business-to-consumer and business-to-business sectors. Sites from his portfolio have won national awards from PCWeek and eWeek magazines, Information Week magazine and Harris Interactive.
Jeff's expertise in healthcare marketing and technology has grown from a 15 year career, highlighted by the position of Vice President of the Accelerated Development Center for PacifiCare Health Systems. There he led the company's in-house consulting, R&D and technology development team in delivering quick-to-market solutions for both internal and external customers. Products and applications developed include a Provider Online Claims system, Online Benefit Enrollment tool, Online Goal Planning and Compensation Tool, Flexible Spend Account Program (FSA), Online Billing and Online Quoting for Individual and Small Groups.
Jeff's MBA degree in Managerial Finance and Investor Relations is from the University of Phoenix, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Corporate Finance and Accounting is from Cal State Fullerton.
Jeff has supported Be Aware Foundation since 2004 and was invited onto the board in May of 2006 to help with leadership in marketing and technology. This is the first board assignment that Jeff has accepted.
Michele Ryan, Director at Large
Michele Ryan is an outside director on the board of TMB, Inc., a Los Angeles based, employee-owned, global distributor of entertainment production equipment and supplies. She recently retired as a partner in TriSystems Performance, a management and strategic planning consultancy, and as president of its division, The Corporate Finance Option. There, she assisted entrepreneurial companies by designing and implementing financial structures that enable growth, initiating improved communications and conducting successful negotiations with the financing community. This consultancy practice was the natural outgrowth of Ms. Ryan's 20 year career in commercial credit, serving in a variety of executive and management roles with organizations including Tokai Bank, Mellon 1st Business Bank and Bank of America.
In addition to her involvement with the Be Aware Foundation, Ms. Ryan has been serving on the board of directors of the Forum for Corporate Directors since 2002. From 1999 through 2004, she served as a trustee and chair of the Financial Women International Foundation, an educational foundation serving women in the financial services industry, and in 2004 - 2005 held the position of Public Affairs Chair on the board of Financial Women International. For more than ten years, she has been active on the board and committees of WISE Place, which operates a transitional shelter for homeless women in Orange County. Ms. Ryan is also active in several associations concerned with the governance of equestrian competition nationally and locally.
Ms. Ryan graduated "With Distinction" from California State University Long Beach with a BS in Business and a certificate in International Business. She is also ISS certified as a corporate director.
Mary Tennyson, Director at Large
Mary "Muff" Tennyson has spent over twenty years in the software industry. Specializing in financial and manufacturing systems, she held consulting, sales and management positions with fortune 100 and mid-sized companies, including Xerox and Unitronix. For 8 years she was owner and President of her own consulting business, Basix Business Solutions, Inc., which provided business system consulting and support to mid-sized companies in the Southern California area. Ms. Tennyson repeatedly received distinguished sales recognition both as a reseller with Basix and as a sales professional with Xerox and Unitronix. She successfully sold Basix in 2000.
Since then she has served on non-profit boards in various roles, including as a founding member of the Women's Philanthropy Fund of the Orange County United Way. She has been a member of the Assistance League Newport-Mesa since 1990, providing them pro bono consulting on system improvements. From 2001-2002 she served as a volunteer in the Development Office of the Orange County High School of the Arts, assisting with grant applications and corporate outreach. Serving since 2000, Ms Tennyson is a founding member of the USC Marshall Partners Board for Orange County (the primary financial support group for the business school) She currently serves as Chair, representing Orange County on the Executive Committee of Marshall Partners.
Ms.Tennyson earned her MBA from USC and earned a BA from Purdue University.
