The primary goal of the Be Aware programs is to motivate and inspire and inspire women to follow our early detection guidelines so that if breast cancer is in their future, they will be more likely to find it at the earliest stage.  Breast cancers run the spectrum from slow growing to rapidly growing, and it is true that not every breast cancer can be caught early even if a woman were to follow all of our recommendations.  However, by following the guidelines, a woman can become confident that if she were to get breast cancer in the future that she has done everything in her power to catch it early.  My 30 plus years of experience in dealing with breast cancer had convinced me that 20% of the patients that I have personally treated with breast cancer could have had an earlier diagnosis with a better prognosis and less aggressive treatment if they had followed our early detection guidelines.  If all women in the U.S. were to embrace our early detection guidelines thousands of lives and billions of dollars would be saved, and all this for a program that is free!
