Guidelines
- By age 20, every woman should do the following:
- Perform a monthly Breast Self Exam, about 4 days after her period.
- Have a breast exam conducted by a trained clinician every year.
- Seek a second opinion about her breast health when in doubt.
- By age 40, most women should start having a yearly screening Mammogram.
- Women who have a first-degree relative with breast cancer (i.e., mother, sister, or daughter), or a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer, should consult their physician about the age to start yearly mammographic screening (and about the role of genetic testing).
