Be Aware Women

The Be Aware Reminder System is designed to change behavior by encouraging women to follow the Guidelines consistently.

YOU determine your Personal Plan of Action and Be Aware sends out emails at the appropriate time to support your plan.

Your Personal Plan of Action includes: Breast Self Exam, Clinical Exam by your physician and Mammogram.

YOU decide the week of the month to do your Breast Self Exam.
YOU decide the month of the year to schedule your Physical Exam.
YOU decide the month of the year to schedule your Mammogram.

Breast Self Exam (BSE): We recommend that women who menstruate do a BSE 4 to 5 days after their period stops.  There is minimal hormonal activity at this time and the breasts will be least tender and less lumpy.  Non-menstruating women pick a day of the month and do a self exam on or about the same time each month.
Clinical Exam: We recommend that women schedule this exam by their physician or nurse practioner annually along with their pap smear pelvic exam.
Mammogram: We recommend that women start getting a Mammogram by the age of 40 and repeat it every year.

The Reminder Program is available online to all women who would appreciate a little extra support in their busy lives.

Sign up here and every month we will send you an email message with a brief inspirational reminder to do your breast self exam.  Once a year you will receive a reminder to schedule your annual exams.
